natural herbs

Look what I got! One of my friend cooked me tasty lunch the other day and gave me bags full of fresh herbs and homemade pastes etc. Most of them are homegrown herbs she grew herself and all organic. I’m so excited to use or plant them and here are the details. Such a lovely gift!

1. How cute is this Rosemary wreath she made it for me. It’s hanging in my kitchen now. Adding rosemary to potatoes is one of my favorite ways of using it.
2. Dried loquat leaf : The loquat fruit is very common in Japanese culture, and leaf is often used to make medicinal teas. There are many health benefits – here.
3. Lavender : She made it for our bedroom.
4. Dried burdock (in Japan, popular as “Gobo“) : it’s a good source of fiber that can improve digestion. I can’t wait to make a tea from them as it has a naturally sweet flavor, according to her.
5. Oregano : It goes particularly well with Tomatoes. Hope it grows well after I plant this little one.
6. Dried jujube : I’d never tried this before, but it tastes a bit like an apple. I found out there are so many medicinal benefits – here.
7. Japanese mogwort (Yomogi) : I love the taste of yomogi. It is used in a number of Japanese sweets, such as yokan, kusa mochi, rice cakes etc. I’ll try to bake something and post here later.
8. Miso : Yes, this is Miso for “miso soup”. It takes a year (!) to make these she said. It’s my first time to taste homemade miso. Can’t wait!
9. Mint : It’s in a planter now. Omar will be making mojito out of it this summer.
